How to Manage a Team Effectively?

Currently, the field of personnel management is actively developing, and replenishing with new practices and theories. This activity is carried out by personnel services, managers, and consulting organizations. Despite the importance of people involved in personnel management, the main role is played by managers who carry out the day-to-day management of the organization. Their achievements, first of all, directly depend on the management style they adhere to. A correctly chosen and successfully applied management style allows the most successful use of the potential of all employees of the enterprise.

Leadership style is a stable set of personal and socio-psychological characteristics of the leader, through which certain methods of influencing the group are implemented. The correct leadership style leads to a favorable socio-psychological climate in the department, a high culture of managerial work helps to reduce staff turnover, reduces the number of disciplinary violations, improves the quality and efficiency of the educational process, scientific activities, etc.

Is it possible to be a results-oriented leader and, at the same time, properly motivate and interest your team? Many say no. You’ll chase two birds with one stone – you won’t catch either one: you’re either an effective manager or “your” in the team.

Which Are Five Components of the Successful Leadership Style?

Now new, exceptionally favorable opportunities are being created for the formation of a highly productive leadership style, which until recently was held back, in particular, by the weakness of democratic principles in management, the dominance of commercial and bureaucratic methods of work, the lack of proper personal responsibility and other shortcomings. Among five the most important components of the successful leadership style are:

  1. A successful manager bets on the involvement of employees in the process of achieving business results. It is important for him to understand how his team members live, and what motivates and inspires them.
  2. The test of leadership is to be strong but not rude; good, but not weak; brave, but not insolent; prudent, but not lazy; modest, but not timid; proud, but not haughty; humorous, but without stupidity.
  3. Leaders must clearly define ultimate goals and values, even as the situation changes. Values can be a guide when everything around is shrouded in uncertainty. If customer convenience is important to you, don’t neglect it in times of uncertainty; if your top priority is health and safety, let it be at the heart of every decision you make.
  4. The successful leader always finds out the opinion of the team on important production issues, and makes collective decisions. Regularly and in a timely manner, informing the members of the team on issues important to them. Communication with subordinates takes place in the form of requests, wishes, recommendations, advice, rewards for high-quality and efficient work, and kindly and politely; orders are applied as necessary.
  5. Always end on something positive. Point out the success, confirm how good you feel about their work at the company in general (which you should have been telling them all along), and emphasize that you have no negative intentions and that they should see it as a positive too. Healthy organizations are free from latent discontent.
